The Silk weavers of Paterson lost the strike that they had bravely fought for five months. The cause of the defeat was mainly hunger and that only 5,000 of the 25,000 strikers were members of the IWW, the support funds were not sufficient but the number of opponents were more than sufficient. Because apart from the capitalists and their guard dogs the police, the strike was also opposed by the national American Federation of Labor (AFL). The strike also failed to gain the sympathy of New York's Social Democratic politicians and their newspapers, since the American's did not support the tactics of direct action and sabotage favoured by the syndicalists. Despite the lack of support from them the IWW is growing and expanding amongst the proletariat everywhere. Despite losing this strike something else was won; the solidarity of between 15,000-25,000 striking workers who bravely stood by the strike until hunger forced them to return to work.

The IWW received a guest from England, Tom Mann, who spoke at the meeting in New York on the 3rd of August to several thousand workers. Mann, a fervent radical syndicalist theorist spoke with interest and conviction about the plight of workers in England, Australia, South Africa and Germany. Although sixty years old, he spoke in English with a loud voice and gestured like a southern Italian, this helped many in the audience who did not speak English well to understand him.  Mann recommended that we support the IWW under Bill Haywood, and will give further speeches in other cities.

The middle of July another great strike of 163,000 railway workers from 43 Eastern rail companies was in sight, but the issue was settled by politicians in Washington, so the strike did not occur. 

Presently in New York there are on going strikes by raincoat makers, laundry workers and knitters, these strikes are supported by the Jewish Labor Union, and it looks like all of them will gain something.

A big scandal happened in Seattle Washington, where the Secretary of State of the Navy, Daniels, spoke publicly and stated that the Red Flag was the enemy of every nation and should not be flown anywhere. This is why on that evening a group of drunken sailors feeling themselves brave attacked the red flag at the street corner where socialists give speeches, and then forced their way into the offices of the IWW and Socialist Party, and broke everything. In their militaristic or patriotic drunkenness they came across the offices of the Salvation Army -a pious army- and tore up everything they found until they came across some pictures inscribed with saintly passages from the bible, then they retreated to their ship and regretted their blasphemous error. Now the Socialists have sent an important protest to the United States government, but no one so far knows the government's response.

In Binghampton New Jersey, 65 women workers lost their lives during a fire at a factory for children's clothing. The same thing happened three years earlier in New York at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire that cost 143 human lives, and the factory owners despite their responsibility for the loss of human life were found not guilty by the judges; the same will happen at this burning, only that here in New York state there is a new method of politics. Governor Sulzer opposes the most powerful politician Murphy and holds him responsible for the fire because he ignored a labour inspection, but this is a political scam, and again none of the wounded survivors or the grieving mothers of the lost children will receive a cent from irresponsible lose of human life. Politician Murphy is now accusing Governor Sulzer of bribery and fraudulent theft. We radicals know full well that all bourgeois politicians can be bribed and would not be surprised if they had to condemn police lieutenant Becker to death and punish many other police officers or even Senator Stillwell for bribery. This isn't just happening in the state of New York, they are finding scams in the state of Illinois also, there are bribes amongst the politicians and the state appears to be financially bankrupt.

La silkteksistoj en Paterson, N. J., perdis la strikon, kiun ili tiel kuraĝe bataladis 5 monatojn. La perdkaŭzo estis precipe la malsato kaj ĉar nur 5000 el la 25 000 strikantoj estis anoj de la I. W. W. La monhelpo por tiu longtempa striko ne povis sufiĉi kaj la nombro de kontraŭuloj estis superufiĉa ĉar, krom la kapitalistoj kun iliaj gardhundoj, la policistaĉoj, ankaŭ la nacia amerika federacio de l’ laboro ĝin kontraŭis. Ĉar la Usonanoj kontraŭas la teoriojn de la senpera agado kaj la sabotadon, kiujn la sindikatistoj tiel favoras, tiu striko nek havis la simpation ankaŭ de la Nov­-Jorkaj socialdemokrataj politikuloj kun iliaj gazetoj. Kvankam mankis la kunhelpo de tiuj, la I. W. W, grandiĝas kaj estas gajnonta ĉie inter la proletariaro. Kvankam tiu striko estas perdita, io estas gajnita : la solidareco, ĉar 15000 el 25000 strikantoj staris kuraĝe je la striko ĝis la malsatego ilin pelis repreni laborojn.

La I. W. W, ricevis gaston el Anglujo, k-don Tom Mann, kiu paroladis en la kunveno en Nov-Jorko, la 3an de Aŭgusto, ankaŭ kelkmiloj da laboristoj. Mann, fervora, radikale pensanta sindikatisto, paroladis interese kaj konvinke, pri la laboristaj aferoj en Anglujo, Aŭstralio, Sudafriko kaj Germanujo. Kvankam sesdekjarulo, li angle paroladis verve, altvoĉe kaj gestade kiel suditalano kaj tio helpis multe lin kompreni ankaŭ de ne anglaj homoj. Mann rekomendis al ni kunhelpi la I. W. W. sub Bill Haywood. Li parolados en kelkaj usonaj urboj.

Meze de Julio estis en vido alia granda striko de la 163 000 fervojistoj, servantaj 43 orientajn fervojajn kompaniojn ; sed la afero estis aranĝata ankaŭ la politikuloj en Washington, tial la grava striko ne okazis.

En Nov-Jorko nuntempe strikas la pluvmantelfaristoj, la lavisthelpantoj kaj la trikistoj, kiuj havas la helpon de la juda laborista unuiĝo, kaj ŝajnas ke ĉiuj el ili gajnos ion.

Granda skandalo okazis en Seattle, Wash., kie la ministro de la usona maristaro, Daniels, paroladis publike, kaj diris, ke la ruĝa standardo estas la malamiko de ĉi tiu lando kaj ke por ĝi ne estas loko ie. Tial la proksiman vesperon kelkaj ebriaj maristoj kuraĝiĝis kaj atakis la ruĝan standardon sur la stratangulo, kie paroladis socialisto, poste penetris perforte en la oficejo de la I. W. W. kaj de la socialista partio, disŝirante kaj rompante ĉion. En ilia soldata aŭ patriota ebrieco ili pasis ĉe la oficejo de la Salvation-Army, iu sankta armeo da piuloj, kaj malkonscie ankaŭ tie penetris, pecigante ĉion, kion ili trovis, ĝis fine ili rimarkis kelkajn bildetojn surskribitajn kun sanktaj sentencoj el la biblio kaj tial forkuris al la ŝipoj, bedaŭrante, ke ili faris lian blas­feman eraron. — Nun la socialistoj sendis gravan proteston al la registaro, sed neniu ĝis nun scias la respondon de la registaro.

Je brulado de la fabrikejo por infanaj vestaĵoj en Bing­hampton, N.-J., 65 laboristinoj perdis la vivon en fajro. Tio ankaŭ okazis antaŭ 3 jaroj en Nov-Jorko, kie la Triangula tolfabrikejo elbruliĝis je perdo de 143 homaj vivoj, kaj la fabrikestroj, kvankam kulpaj por la malsavo de la vivoj, estis senkulpigitaj de la Juĝistoj ; la sama okazos ĉe tiu brulado ; nur tie ĉi en ŝtato Nov-Jorko ekzistas nova metodo de la politiko. La regnestro Sulzer kontraŭas la plej potencan politikulon Murphy kaj faras lin responda pri la nuna brulado, ĉar li ne atentis laborinspekton, sed tio estas politika friponaĵo kaj ree neniu de la vunditaj survivantoj de tiu fajro aŭ la suferantaj patrinoj de la perditaj infanoj ricevos eĉ unu spesmilon por ĉi tiu neresponda perdo de homaj vivoj. - Nun la politikestro Murphy akuzas la regnestron Sulzer por subaĉeteco kaj trompa ŝtelaĉo. Ni radikaloj scias bone, ke ĉiuj iliaj burĝaj politikuloj estas subaĉeteblaj kaj eĉ ete ne miras se ili estis devigitaj puni la polican leŭtenanton Becker je morto kaj multajn aliajn policistojn eĉ senatoron Stillwell por subaĉetado. Ne nur en ŝtato de Nov-Jorko ili komencis trovi friponaĵojn ankaŭ en ŝtato de Illinois okazis subaĉetadoj
inter la politikuloj, kaj tiu ŝtato ŝajnas esti finance bankrota.
