We Want Freedom for All A Jewish Anarchist Statement

We Want Freedom for All A Jewish Anarchist Statement Published by the Libertarian Worker’s Group FROM THE PAST TO THE PRESENT Back in 1889, amidst the squalor and destitution of New York’s Lower East Side, a group of young Jewish workers created the first anarchist journal to be published in Yiddish, Di Varhayt (The Truth) . After 20 issues, the paper was reconstituted as Di Frei Arbeiter Shtimme (The Free Voice of Labor) , and for the next 86 years it served as one of the major forums of anarchist thought in the Yiddish-speaking world as well as a leading journal of the Jewish labor movement and Yiddish subculture. It[sic] its heyday, Di Frei Arbeiter Shtimme was the voice of a movement composed of thousands of Jewish working women and men who were not only fighting the bosses in the sweatshops but also combatting domination and exploitation wherever encountered: in their unions, in their communities, in their homes and schools. They defied the puritanical conventi...

SUNDAY SCHOOLS THAT TEACH CHILDREN ANARCHY (New York Times, 1910)

Image
Note, transcribed by user  cumming insurrection     A Thousand Young Persons Are Being Trained in New York to Be Successors of Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman. So quietly has the anarchistic propaganda been carried on in New York that it will, without doubt, send a chill of arctic iciness down the spines of the many people who profess to stand in holy horror of the theory to learn through this article that to-day anarchistic Sunday schools are in session here just as are Sunday schools for bringing up the young to follow Methodism, Baptism, or any other form of faith or creed. There are easily a thousand children in these schools, children who will, beyond peradventure, grow up to be Alexander Berkmanns and Emma Goldmans, with perhaps a Ferrer or a Tolstoy appearing. They range in age from 6 years to 16. During the week they go to the public schools and sing their own part in the grand chorus of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” recite the lessons offered by the syste...

1986: Stonehenge Conservation of the Monument

Image
A leaflet about Stonehenge by The Pleasure Tendency a Situationist inspired Anarchist group based in Yorkshire, published 1986.  CONSERVATION OF THE MONUMENT The Pleasure Tendency Something very important is happening at Stonehenge. It is not at all surprising that the Government should stamp on ancient rights for its own ends, but what these ends are is as yet unknown. It may be they are connected with as yet undisclosed military activities. Or, more interestingly, with the persecution of a dissident element which stands in the way of the New Britain, that is, one in which Consumer Society extends into every area of life. On the last night of 1900, two stones fell of their own accord, perhaps an omen; in the next year, tolls were established for the first time for entry to the site. In a post-industrial commodity economy, intangibles will increasingly have to become objects of consumption, and be degraded because of it; Stonehenge is only one example. The `damage` cau...

1917: Emma Goldman, Address to the Jury

9th July, 1917, NYC Gentlemen of the Jury: As in the case of my co-defendant, Alexander Berkman, this is also the first time in my life I have ever addressed a jury. I once had occasion to speak to three judges. On the day after our arrest it was given out by the U.S. Marshal and the District Attorney’s office that the “big fish” of the No?Conscription activities had been caught, and that there would be no more trouble-makers and disturbers to interfere with the highly democratic effort of the Government to conscript its young manhood for the European slaughter. What a pity that the faithful servants of the Government, personified in the U.S. Marshal and the District Attorney, should have used such a weak and flimsy net for their big catch. The moment the anglers pulled their heavily laden net ashore, it broke, and all the labor was so much wasted energy. The methods employed by Marshal McCarthy and his hosts of heroic warriors were sensational enough to satisfy the famous c...

Al Amal Issue 06

Image
The sixth issue of the Al Amal newsletter is now live, you can download the PDF here.  The war in Sudan has now entered its third year … The war in Sudan has now entered its third year, with no end in sight. This war was planned as early as 2019, as the generals of blood themselves admitted, stating that its timing had been set back then, but was delayed due to incomplete preparations. What a horrifying reality. This state has always been one that plans and orchestrates internal wars, suppresses freedoms by every possible means, and perpetuates continuous brutal violence. This regime, which carries out systematic arrests, organized torture in so- called “ghost houses,” and extrajudicial killings, now stands fully exposed before the revolutionary masses. The Rapid Support Forces are not separate from this regime; they are its product—an extension of its brutality and savagery. All the crimes committed, including ethnic cleansing and genocide, are a direct result...

1886: Expropriation An Essay by Kropotkin

Image
Expropriation An Essay by Kropotkin  Published in La Revolte in 1886  Translated by Henry Glasse  No Social problem is more important for Revolutionists than that which deals with the expropriation of the rich in favour of the people, and the appropriation of all wealth by the latter. We invite all our comrades to study this problem under all its aspects, and to disenss it unceasingly, in view of its realization, which must sooner or later force itself upon us, as the definite success or temporary failure of the Revolution depends upon the manner in which this expropriation is applied. As a matter of fact, no Socialist can doubt that any revolutionary effort is condemned in advance if, it does not correspond with the interests of the great majority, and find means for satisfying its requirements. It is not enough to have a noble id al: man cannot live on great thoughts and lofty discourses alone; he requires bread; the stomach has more rights than even the b...
